Despite spending over 1,300 days incarcerated and being repeatedly denied bail, he was ultimately acquitted by a unanimous jury in June 2022.
Azmi will embody Pammi Bothra, the doctor's wife, who served as a crucial source of strength for the family throughout their arduous legal battle. The movie also features Kabir Bedi as Dr. Raj Bothra and Emily Shah as his supportive daughter, Sonia. Principal photography for the film has commenced in London.
The project is based on Dr. Bothra's book, "USA v/s Raj," co-authored by Jennifer DeBellis. Dr. Bothra, a recipient of India's Padma Shri for humanitarian efforts, has a history of global health advocacy, having collaborated with Mother Teresa and advised Pope John Paul II.
