The debut trailer for "The Serpent's Skin," directed by Alice Maio Mackay, unveils a darkly romantic and supernatural narrative. This queer film, which has been generating buzz on the festival circuit since last year, pairs desire with dread in an aughts-coded dreamscape. The story follows Anna, a trans girl who escapes a hostile hometown for a city teeming with spectral presences.
Anna's life takes a supernatural turn when she meets Gen, a magnetic woman she's seen in her dreams. Their connection is immediate, erotic, and infused with otherworldly power. However, their combined abilities inadvertently transform Anna's ex-boyfriend, Danny, into a monstrous entity.
Co-written with Benjamin Pahl Robinson, the film draws inspiration from '90s cult television like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Charmed." Directed with low-budget ingenuity and adolescent clarity, "The Serpent's Skin" explores the destructive potential of intimacy and the pulsing panic of love, featuring a charged chemistry between stars Alexandra McVicker and Avalon Fast.
