The Serielizados festival is set to unspool from October 19-28 in Barcelona, with subsequent streaming on Filmin. This year's edition prominently features a strong shift towards European productions, showcasing high-end series from the UK, Germany, and France.
Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen will preside over the jury for the International Competition. He will be joined by other notable figures, including comedian Victoria Martín. The festival's national competition will premiere the second season of Movistar Plus+'s 'Celeste' and the anticipated series 'Killing a Bear,' inspired by a real case.
The international competition includes the French-German-Dutch co-production 'Etti,' based on the diaries of Etty Hillesum. Other international entries hail from the UK, including the BBC comedy 'Ann Droid' and Channel 4's factual drama 'Dirty Business.' German dramas 'A Better Place' and 'Naked' also represent the growing trend of European public broadcasters backing auteur series.
Festival co-head Betu Martínez emphasized the theme "life through series," noting that selected shows reflect societal anxieties with strong authorial voices. The festival aims to act as a filter in an era of content overabundance, defending "series that truly matter" under its motto "An Eye For It."
