Actress Manifests Role in Beef Season 2

Seoyang Jang, an actress of British-Korean heritage, expressed that her role in the upcoming season of Netflix's "Beef" felt like a manifestation. She recalled seeing a clip from the first season on Instagram and thinking she wanted to play such a character. Jang joins the acclaimed anthology series as Eunice, assistant to Youn Yuh-jung's chairwoman, and is part of a cast that includes Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan.

Transitioning from a career primarily in Korean dramas, Jang considers "Beef" her second U.S. project and a significant turning point. She previously worked on "Butterfly," which she described as a springboard for her Hollywood aspirations. Jang moved to Korea at a young age to train as an idol but later found her passion for acting, eventually shifting her focus away from the K-pop industry.

Jang found playing Eunice particularly relatable due to the character's grounded nature amidst "petty characters." She also connected with a scene involving translation, drawing parallels to her own experiences with her mother, who did not speak English when the family first moved to London. This personal connection highlighted the show's ability to tap into authentic, everyday struggles and the director's genius.

Collaboration with director Lee Sung Jin, also known as Sonny, was described as reassuring for Jang. She noted his clear vision for the series, which allowed her to feel secure in her performance. Jang sought to please Sonny, carefully observing his subtle reactions after each take to gauge her performance. She admitted to being shocked and grateful when her manifestation for this role, her first significant U.S. opportunity, came true.
