The 21st annual South East European Film Festival (SEEfest) will commence on April 29, 2026, featuring Ioana Mischie's directorial debut, 'Catane.' This Romanian comedy-romance is described as a modern fairytale about resourceful villagers. The festival, co-presented by ELMA, will run through May 6 in Los Angeles.
Founded in 2006 by Vera Mijojlić, SEEfest aims to showcase the best of South and Eastern European cinema. This year's program includes notable films such as the Croatian drama 'Honey Bunny' and the award-winning Slovenian fantasy film 'Fantasy.' Honorary chair Irina Maleeva, a Bulgarian American actress, lends her support to the event.
The documentary lineup features 'Militantropos,' which examines the human impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Other documentaries include 'The Beauty Of The Donkey,' a Kosovo-Swiss production exploring memory and loss, and 'A State Film,' an archival look at Albania under Enver Hoxha's regime.
SEEfest also includes a robust Industry program, highlighting the SEEfest Project Accelerator, a two-week opportunity for filmmakers to present developing projects. The festival will present awards in seven juried categories.
