- Costume designer Colleen Atwood reveals how DiCaprio's robe was made from vintage fabric
- Robe was inspired by Jeff Bridges' character in "The Big Lebowski"
- DiCaprio had input on the sneakers and other accessories for his character

In the new film "One Battle After Another," which premiered just 3 days ago, Leonardo DiCaprio plays a revolutionary-turned-stoner dad named Bob who spends much of the movie lounging around in a comfortable robe. The costume designer, Colleen Atwood, has now revealed the secrets behind this iconic look.
Atwood explains that the robe was originally intended to be a sweatshirt, but the director and DiCaprio decided a robe would be a better fit for the character. The robe was made from a vintage-looking cotton-wool blend fabric that was heavily aged to give it a worn, lived-in appearance. Atwood says the goal was to create "an old, cheap dad robe" that was "comfortable and cozy."
DiCaprio also had a hand in selecting the accessories for his character, including a pair of Altra Lone Peak trail runners with an orange sole that he liked for their wide toe box. Atwood notes that they had to "protect him from the world" and keep the sneakers in good condition, even as they got filthy during filming.
The costume designer also discusses the look for DiCaprio's on-screen daughter, Willa, played by Chase Infiniti. Willa's petticoat dress was inspired by something the director had seen, and Atwood collaborated with the production designer to find the perfect faded blue color that would fit the character's emotional state.
