Award-winning British folk musician and theatre creator Sean Cooney is exploring a new theme for his latest musical project: heroic dogs. Known for bringing working-class stories to life through a blend of folk music and historical testimony, Cooney has shifted his focus from remarkable people to remarkable canines.
This creative endeavor was sparked by the recent retirement of his wife's guide dog, Nessie, after eight and a half years of dedicated service. Cooney is now composing a series of songs dedicated to dogs throughout history that have been more than just companions, but true life-savers.
The album will feature stories of these extraordinary animals, including the legendary Rollo, who is credited with saving a baby's life during the Great Sheffield Flood in 1864. The project is set to conclude with a unique, dog-friendly concert.
