Summary
- Scream 7 features original scribe Kevin Williamson's story.
- Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are absent from this sequel.
- The film references past events without naming departed stars.

The Scream franchise continues with its seventh installment, a distinct departure from earlier plans. Original scribe Kevin Williamson has penned a new storyline that centers on Neve Campbell's Sidney Evans, her teenage daughter Tatum, and her husband Mark, now residing in Pine Grove. This iteration notably excludes stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who previously led the new era of the slasher series.
Despite the absence of Barrera and Ortega's characters, Sam and Tara, the film employs meta-commentary to acknowledge past events. Characters like Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, the only new additions from the previous films to return, make subtle references to previous Ghostface attacks and lineages, including a nod to Sam's connection to Billy Loomis. Gale Weathers also returns, dealing with injuries sustained in Scream VI.
The production faced significant upheaval, with Barrera being fired and Ortega departing due to the shifting direction of the film. This led to Christopher Landon stepping down as director, paving the way for Williamson's involvement. The franchise navigates these changes while addressing fan reactions and industry discussions surrounding the casting shifts and the film's narrative direction.
