Scream 7 Faces Boycott Amid Ghostface Controversy

Scream 7 is currently experiencing a fan-led boycott, coinciding with the premiere of the latest installment. Director Kevin Williamson acknowledged the protests, stating, "We have the right to protest" and support for "the right to be heard." The controversy ignited in November 2023 after Spyglass fired actress Melissa Barrera due to her social media posts concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict. The company cited a "zero tolerance for antisemitism or incitement of hate."

Following Barrera's dismissal, Jenna Ortega, who was slated to play the new 'final girl,' also exited the project, noting the sequel was "falling apart." Director Christopher Landon soon followed, citing death threats directed at his children. Neve Campbell was then brought back in March 2024 to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, with Williamson directing the film she previously sat out due to pay disputes. The plot centers on Sidney protecting her daughter from a new Ghostface killer.
