Gotham Award nominee Sebiye Behtiyar and Emmy nominee Sonja O'Hara will lead the cast of Zachary Allard's directorial debut, the horror feature 'The Scorpion.' The film is slated to shoot in Los Angeles later this year.
'The Scorpion' centers on Kit, portrayed by O'Hara, a young woman whose aspirations for a clothing line are stalled. Desperate for funds, she accepts a position at an innovative cosmetics laboratory. This facility touts the elimination of animal testing in favor of human volunteers for its procedures.
As Kit becomes increasingly involved in the lab's peculiar experiments, which involve perfumes, chemicals, and invasive methods, her life begins to improve. However, unsettling physical and psychological transformations start to manifest.
Behtiyar plays Lizzie, a new recruit at the clinic who forms a close bond with another test subject. Together, they endure increasingly disturbing physical and psychological changes.
The production team includes producers Raechel Zarzynski, Kathy Sue Holtorf, Garrett Recker, and Greg Elam, with Corey Moosa serving as executive producer. Davon Slininger, known for his work with David O. Russell and Damien Chazelle, will handle cinematography.
