Sci-Fi Time Loop Blooms into Boredom

A new science fiction film adaptation presents a day-on-repeat scenario where characters battle monstrous plants, but it falters due to a lack of engaging characters. The story centers on Rita, a United Defense Force member who becomes trapped in a time loop after exposure to alien spores from a flower named Darol. She is forced to repeatedly live through the same day.

Initially, Rita attempts to escape her predicament through various means, including suicide and combat training. Eventually, she encounters Keiji, another individual caught in the same temporal anomaly. Together, they work to upgrade their skills and equipment to confront the alien threat, a narrative structure reminiscent of 'Edge of Tomorrow.'

However, the film emphasizes despair and futility, aligning with the protagonist's downbeat perspective. Unlike its predecessors, this version lacks the engaging character development and witty interplay that made similar stories compelling. The animation style, while sharp, features angular character designs and vibrant, almost garish colors, which detract from the overall experience.
