Scarlett Johansson's Directorial Debut Reunites Her with Longtime Collaborator

In September 2025, actress Jessica Hecht spoke about her reunion with Scarlett Johansson, who directed Hecht in the film "Eleanor the Great." The two had previously worked together on the 2010 Broadway play "A View from the Bridge."

Hecht, now 60 years old, noted that she "can't believe" she and the 40-year-old Johansson had the opportunity to collaborate again. During their reunion, the two caught up on life, discussing topics like relationships, children, and their families.

Hecht observed that Johansson's perspective has shifted since becoming a parent. "I think once you're a parent, you feel so differently about -- which is why she's so perfect for this film -- what you feel your responsibility is to someone else," Hecht explained. She recalled that Johansson was deeply committed to her craft when they worked together on the Broadway play, but now she is also "so interested in being a good person."

Hecht described her on-set dynamic with Johansson as "very natural, very easy," and said she deeply respects the actress-turned-director. "I'm always fascinated by what people have as part of their DNA after having that amount of time in that profession. I find it very powerful, and that she does so little to express the artistry of something that she's been part of."
