Scarlett Johansson Wants SNL Weekend Update Debut with June Squibb
26 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Scarlett Johansson interested in hosting SNL's Weekend Update segment
- Wants to partner with veteran actress June Squibb as co-host
- Squibb, 96, currently starring in Broadway play, may face scheduling challenges

As of September 26th, 2025, Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson is continuing her successful acting career, while her husband, Colin Jost, is set to return as a host of Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update segment in the show's upcoming 51st season. However, Johansson has her sights set on joining Jost behind the Weekend Update desk, and she already has the perfect co-host in mind - veteran actress June Squibb.
Johansson has been promoting her directorial debut, the film "Eleanor the Great," which is now playing in theaters. During a recent interview, she expressed her interest in hosting Weekend Update, but only if Squibb, who stars in the film, can join her. The two actresses discussed the possibility, though they acknowledged a few potential obstacles.
The main challenge is that Squibb, who turns 96 in November, may have difficulty staying up late for the live Saturday Night Live taping, which runs from 11:30 pm to 1:00 am Eastern Time. However, Johansson believes this can be solved by giving Squibb an espresso shot beforehand. The more significant hurdle is that Squibb is currently preparing to perform in the Broadway production of "Marjorie Prime," with preview showings beginning on November 20th and the official opening on December 8th. Balancing a Broadway show and a Saturday Night Live appearance would be a significant undertaking.
Despite the challenges, Squibb has expressed her willingness to team up with Johansson for the Weekend Update segment if the logistics can be worked out. Johansson's interest in the opportunity stems from her previous involvement with the sketch, including a memorable moment when her husband, Jost, had to read off-color jokes about her during a joke swap with co-host Michael Che.
