Scarlett Johansson has spoken about the significant challenges faced by women in Hollywood during the early 2000s. She described the period as "harsh," with women frequently criticized for their physical appearance in ways that were then socially acceptable.

Johansson, now 41, noted that the opportunities for actresses her age were considerably more limited back then. She explained that roles often confined them to specific archetypes, such as "the other woman" or "the bombshell."

She contrasted this with the present day, where she observes "much more empowering roles" becoming available for actresses. The acclaimed star also shared that she found it difficult to navigate the limited casting options she experienced earlier in her career.

Looking ahead, Johansson is set to star in upcoming projects. She will appear in the film 'Paper Tiger,' alongside Adam Driver and Miles Teller, and is also slated for Mike Flanagan's adaptation of 'The Exorcist.'
