Gupta, known for her preference for unconventional roles in films like "Margarita with a Straw" and series such as "Four More Shots Please!," now steps behind the camera.
The narrative of "Aasmani" centers on Smita, a woman in her late sixties, and her deep connection with her beloved pale-blue Fiat. Alongside her granddaughter, Tiya, she strives to prevent the car from being sold. The film's screenplay has achieved significant international recognition, securing wins at various screenplay competitions including the New York Screenplay Competition and the Independent Short Awards LA.
Gupta describes "Aasmani" as a story about love, companionship, and freedom, touching upon themes of redundancy, values, and loss. She aimed to create a "spot of sunshine, love and joy" by portraying resilient women. The film is produced by Sayani Gupta Movies, the Sumitra Gupta Foundation for Arts, and One India Stories, with notable support from Nikkhil Advani and Dia Mirza.
