Savannah Guthrie has rejoined her co-hosts on the Today show after a two-week hiatus. She was welcomed back on Tuesday morning, acknowledging the "back-to-school week" theme with characteristic humor. This return follows a period of personal difficulty for Guthrie. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing in February from her home in Tucson, Arizona, and remains unfound seven months later. The journalist has openly shared her distress over the "months of agony and unending trauma" during the ongoing search.

Despite these deeply challenging circumstances, Guthrie has also been engaged with her professional commitments. She recently took a leave of absence from Today to film the upcoming Wordle game show, a new NBC venture scheduled to premiere in 2027. This series is executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon and is a project of The New York Times, which currently owns the popular game. Earlier in September, Guthrie also made a guest appearance on Fallon's other show, Password, demonstrating her game show prowess.
