On November 11, 2025, the 4K restoration of Satyajit Ray's 1970 masterpiece 'Aranyer Din Ratri' was screened at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival, drawing an overwhelming response from the audience. This has now ignited a renewed interest among the younger generation of cinephiles in Ray's iconic works.
In the wake of the successful restoration of 'Aranyer Din Ratri', work has begun on restoring another Ray classic, 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne'. Additionally, the restoration of 'Kanchenjunga' is set to commence within a week. The restoration of 'Aranyer Din Ratri' was a collaborative effort by The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project, Film Heritage Foundation, The Criterion Collection, and Janus Films.
Priya Cinema's Arijit Dutta expressed his delight at the enthusiastic response from the younger audience, noting that while some of Ray's earlier works were available on digital platforms, the poor print quality had deterred many. With the availability of high-quality restorations, a new generation of viewers is now discovering the cinematic brilliance of the legendary filmmaker.
