The late actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik's directorial venture, 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,' released in 1993, proved to be an ambitious project that ultimately failed at the box office. Mounted on a grand scale, the film starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, with a screenplay by Javed Akhtar and supporting roles from Anupam Kher, Johnny Lever, and Jackie Shroff. Its release on April 16, 1993, was met with high expectations that were unmet.
Kaushik, in a candid interview on 'Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,' recounted his struggle to face the film's commercial failure. He revealed that producer Boney Kapoor was severely impacted, even expressing thoughts of jumping from a moving car. Kaushik himself found a way to cope, humorously sharing what stopped him from a desperate act.
He explained that contemplating a jump from the first floor, he saw food served below. He jokingly reasoned that if he jumped and landed on the food, his suicide attempt might not be taken seriously, as people might assume he was merely seeking food. This witty perspective diffused the gravity of his despair.
Satish Kaushik passed away on March 9, 2023, at the age of 66 in Gurugram due to a heart attack, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and directorial endeavors.
