28 Jun
Summary
- Satish Kaushik kept his 'Brick Lane' role a secret from Anupam Kher.
- Anupam Kher also auditioned for the same Hollywood film role.
- Kaushik feared Kher might get the role if he knew.

Veteran actor Satish Kaushik once kept a significant secret from his close friend Anupam Kher regarding a Hollywood role. During an appearance on "The Kapil Sharma Show," Kaushik disclosed that he intentionally concealed his pursuit of the role of Chanu Ahmed in the film "Brick Lane" from Kher.
Kaushik explained that the casting director had approached him, and he chose not to inform Kher about his audition. His reasoning was a desire to prevent the role from shifting to Kher, indicating a competitive yet friendly dynamic between them.
It was only after Kaushik was selected and preparing to depart for London to commence shooting for the two-and-a-half-month project that he revealed the news to Kher. Upon learning it was "Brick Lane," Kher expressed surprise, sharing that he too had been trying for the same part.
Kaushik playfully attributed his silence to a "religious reason" and a fear that Kher might "snatch the role." "Brick Lane," directed by Sarah Gavron, is based on Monica Ali's 2003 novel and features Tannishtha Chatterjee in the lead role of Nazneen.
Satish Kaushik, who left a lasting impression with his performance, tragically passed away in Gurugram on March 9, 2023, at the age of 66.
