Sardinia Film Fest: Summer Blockbusters Launch
24 Jun
Summary
- Festival launches summer films including Toy Story 5 and Supergirl.
- Focuses on mentorship, education, and championing female filmmakers.
- Aims to be an essential summer meeting point for the film industry.
Filming Sardegna, established nine years ago by Tiziana Rocca, is set to commence from June 25-28 in Cagliari, Sardinia. The festival will showcase more than 50 films, featuring Italian and world premieres, including "Toy Story 5" and Warner Bros.' "Supergirl." Rocca, who also directs the Taormina Film Festival, notes the distinct focuses of each event: Taormina as more historic and grand, and Sardegna centered on mentorship, education, and supporting new filmmakers, especially women.
The Sardegna festival aims to serve as Italy's essential summer film launchpad, screening a minimum of three films daily. It fosters a conversational environment, connecting students from the Academy Cinema and various schools with industry professionals. The event includes a short film competition, 'In Corto,' in partnership with the University of Cagliari, with winning films broadcast on Rai Cinema Channel and MyMovies, and also shown in Los Angeles.
Rocca envisions Filming Sardegna as a vital meeting point for distributors, streamers, talent, and students, bridging the gap between industry, education, and the region. Future editions will emphasize masterclasses and emerging voices, solidifying Sardinia's strategic importance beyond its scenic backdrop. This initiative complements Taormina's ambition to enhance its international stature while honoring its rich cultural heritage.
