In September 2025, acclaimed actress Sarah Jessica Parker, now 60 years old, revealed that she has been exploring new books by following her daughters' high school syllabus. Parker, best known for her role in the hit TV series Sex and the City, shared this insight during a recent event at Hunter College in New York.
"Well, I'm sneaking a book now," Parker said. "I'm following my daughters' syllabus. It's really amazing. My daughters are juniors in high school." The actress went on to list several non-fiction titles that have grabbed her attention, ranging from books on politics in Russia to works by early English authors.
Beyond her literary discoveries, Parker also emphasized that writers should not focus on making their characters "likable" or "sympathetic." She argued that some of the greatest characters in cinema, such as notorious gangsters, were not necessarily likable but were still captivating. "I can't tell you how many times I've been asked about a character I played for so many years, if she was sympathetic or likable," Parker added. "And I was like, 'God, some of the greatest gangsters in cinema... they were murderers, but they were really great characters.'"
Parker's comments provide a unique insight into her reading habits and her perspective on character development in storytelling. As an avid reader and a respected figure in the entertainment industry, her views on these topics are sure to resonate with both aspiring writers and devoted readers alike.
