Sara Cox has officially taken the reins of the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, marking her first day with a humorous legal quip to listeners. She playfully declared, "my lawyers are listening," when introducing her new game segment, "Surprise and Shine." This new feature offers participants a chance to win a unique prize: socks adorned with Cox's own face.

Cox's debut follows the departure of Scott Mills, who was removed from his BBC Radio 2 show after an investigation into alleged serious sexual offenses. Cox, who previously hosted the station's teatime slot since 2018, expressed her readiness for the new challenge, noting her 28 years of radio experience. She also acknowledged Gary Davies, who temporarily filled the breakfast slot after Mills' removal.

Her first guest on the new show was Hollywood actor Tom Hanks. Cox stated she knew "no more than you do" regarding the specifics of Mills' situation. The BBC confirmed they were aware of a police investigation into Mills dating back to 2016, which was later dropped due to insufficient evidence. The corporation stated they acted decisively upon receiving new information prior to Mills' sacking.
