On Day 5 of the Saptak festival, Sabir Khan honored his father, the renowned sarangi maestro Sultan Khan, who had previously captivated audiences in 2011. Sabir Khan's performance, accompanied by tabla virtuoso Yogesh Samsi, celebrated the enduring power of music and carried forward his father's esteemed legacy.
The evening also featured the doyenne of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana, Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande. Her performance exemplified her gharana's distinctive style, marked by scholarly precision and an elegant, practical presentation of beauty on stage. She delivered the bandish "Sakala Dukha Harana Sadanand" with impeccable accuracy.
Bhide-Deshpande explained that the bandish speaks to Nirguni, a formless divinity, with Sadanand representing eternal bliss. Her rendition successfully transmuted this abstract concept into a tangible feeling of bliss, deeply affecting the audience and demonstrating the signature power of her gharana.
