Santoor's Monsoon Melody: Folk Meets Modern

Santoor player Rahul Sharma is exploring new sonic landscapes with his latest instrumental single, "RimJhim - Rainchanted HuRuRu." This piece marks a fusion of traditional Indian folk music and modern musical sensibilities, drawing inspiration from the romance of the monsoon season.

Sharma's new track features a contemporary arrangement of "HuRuRu," a cherished folk tune from Rajasthan's Manganiyar tradition. Originally sung by the late Ustad Rana Khan, the melody is reinterpreted by Sharma, who aims to create an "ethnic world music collaboration." Contemporary chords, played by Avinash Chandrachud, complement the santoor melody, blending rustic folk elements with new-age music.

The santoor, with its flowing notes, is Sharma's chosen instrument to capture the essence of monsoon imagery, such as waterfalls and lakes. He views "RimJhim" as more than an experiment; it's an ode to the simple bliss found in the season's first rainfall, aiming to bring peace and joy to listeners.
