The series follows María José, who, after a car accident left her in a wheelchair, famously abandoned her partner at the altar. Twenty years later, the consequences of that decision resurface when her former love unexpectedly reenters her life.
Set in Tijuana, "Santita" delves into María José's unconventional journey, exploring her search for intimacy. Gael García Bernal highlighted the series' grounded approach to Santita's sex life, emphasizing research into women's experiences with similar injuries and their pursuit of sexual fulfillment.
Rodrigo García's extensive television directing credits also include "The Sopranos" and "The Affair." "Santita" is set to stream on Netflix beginning April 22.
