The Sands film festival is set to host its fifth edition from April 17 to April 19 in St Andrews, Scotland. Produced by the Byre Theatre at the University of St Andrews and founded by AGBO, the event promises a rich program centered on storytelling. Esteemed BAFTA and Grammy award-winning composer Craig Armstrong will participate in an on-stage Q&A and musical event.
Veteran screenwriter Charlie Kaufman is scheduled to discuss the intersection of film and poetry. The festival will also present its signature "This Much I Know..." series, featuring insights from figures such as Cinetic founder John Sloss and production designer James Price. Film theorist Laura Mulvey will introduce a screening of her 1982 film.
Discussions will explore artificial intelligence's impact on creative practices. The festival will open with talks on technology and close with Rohan Kanawade's feature "Cactus Pears." Other films include "André Is an Idiot" and the Academy Award-nominated "Cutting Through Rocks."
Festival Director Ania Trzebiatowska described Sands as a celebration of storytelling's power to foster connection and inspiration. Co-founder Joe Russo expressed excitement for the conversations that will emerge from this fifth edition, highlighting the programming's intention and generosity.
