Summary
- Author Raynor Winn published a novel six years prior.
- The earlier book was released under a pseudonym by her company.
- The Salt Path's authenticity questioned due to new revelations.

Raynor Winn, the acclaimed author of 'The Salt Path', has disclosed that the memoir was not her first published work, contrary to her previous statements. In 2012, six years before 'The Salt Path', Winn released a novel under the pseudonym Izzy Wyn-Thomas.
This earlier book was published by Gangani Publishing, a company co-owned by Winn and her husband Moth (real names Sally and Tim Walker). The novel's existence emerged through legal confirmations detailed in a recent BBC Sounds podcast.
The latest revelations follow an investigation that questioned the unflinching honesty of 'The Salt Path'. Doubts were cast on the book's depiction of the couple's life, including the circumstances leading to the sale of their home and Moth's diagnosis of corticobasal degeneration (CBD).
Winn had consistently stated that 'The Salt Path' was her debut novel, even in interviews conducted in 2020 and 2019. She and Moth had indicated no prior writing experience, further surprising interviewers.
However, it is now understood that the Walkers possessed publishing experience through Gangani Publishing, which listed Tim Walker as director and Sally Walker as a shareholder. The company published a book titled 'How Not to Dal Dy Dir', described as a darkly humorous novel.
These disclosures about Winn's initial publication have surfaced as her upcoming novel, 'On Winter Hill', saw its release date postponed. Originally scheduled for October last year, the book is now slated for January 2028.
Winn has refuted the claims made in The Observer's investigation, calling them 'grotesquely unfair' and 'highly misleading'. While admitting to 'deep regret' over past mistakes that led to embezzlement allegations, she denied the allegation itself.
To address skepticism regarding Moth's health condition, Raynor shared excerpts from clinic letters, asserting that he has been receiving treatment for CBD for many years.
