After a second round of talks, SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced a tentative four-year contract on Saturday, May 2nd. This agreement arrives nearly a month after a similar four-year deal was struck between the AMPTP and the Writers' Guild of America.
Negotiations for the performers' union, representing over 160,000 members, initially commenced in early February. Talks were paused in mid-March to allow for the conclusion of the WGA negotiations. The specific terms of the new contract will not be disclosed until the SAG-AFTRA National Board convenes in the coming days for review and approval.
Key provisions within the tentative agreement reportedly include new standards for the utilization of artificial intelligence in film and television productions. Additionally, the contract is expected to include contributions to the union's pension fund. Both parties had expressed optimism that they were close to a resolution when negotiations recessed earlier this year.
