SAG-AFTRA members have overwhelmingly voted to ratify the 2026 TV/Theatrical Agreement, securing significant advancements for performers. The contract, approved by 91.42% of voting members, builds upon existing protections concerning artificial intelligence and digital replicas. It implements stricter limitations on the use of synthetics, thereby providing enhanced safeguards against AI displacing actors in their roles. This agreement also establishes a streamlined process for merging the SAG-Producers Pension Plan and the AFTRA Retirement Fund, ensuring members' earnings are no longer divided between these two separate plans.
This landmark deal, effective July 1 and expiring June 30, 2030, was the result of negotiations commencing on February 9 and concluding on May 2. SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin expressed pride in the membership's unified stance, noting that the agreement delivers substantial gains in compensation, bolsters AI and digital identity protections, and reinforces the long-term security of member benefit plans. The AMPTP acknowledged the partnership, stating the agreement provides meaningful improvements in wages, residuals, and performer protections, signaling a positive path forward for industry stability.
