Summary
- SAG-AFTRA and studios are actively negotiating a new contract.
- Health and pension plans are the top priorities for all guilds.
- The current actors' union contract expires on June 30.

SAG-AFTRA is actively engaged in negotiations with major Hollywood studios, aiming to secure a new contract for its members. President Sean Astin shared a brief update, emphasizing the union's commitment to achieving a solid agreement that respects the dignity and well-being of actors.
The primary focus for SAG-AFTRA, alongside the WGA and DGA, is the improvement of health and pension plans, which have faced deficits due to rising costs and decreased employment. The studios, represented by the AMPTP, may be seeking longer contract durations.
Negotiations officially began on February 9, with both sides adhering to a media blackout regarding specific details. SAG-AFTRA's current contract expires on June 30, placing pressure on the union to reach an agreement before or shortly after other guilds, including the WGA (starting March 16) and the DGA (in May).
Astin acknowledged the current industry climate during his speech, offering a prayer for peace and highlighting the national scope of the union, with members participating from 25 locals. The union's goal is to ensure members can provide for their families and work in a respectful environment.
