Sadhguru Backs Ranbir Kapoor's Casting as Lord Ram in Epic 'Ramayana'

In October 2025, spiritual leader Sadhguru has come to the defense of actor Ranbir Kapoor, who is set to play the role of Lord Ram in the upcoming epic film 'Ramayana'. The two-part film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is one of India's most ambitious and expensive productions, with a planned IMAX release on Diwali 2026 and 2027.

Ranbir's casting as the divine Lord Ram has faced significant backlash on social media, with netizens and trolls citing his past controversies as reasons for his "miscasting". However, Sadhguru has strongly defended the actor, calling the criticism "unfair". The spiritual guru argued that an actor's past roles should not determine their suitability for a particular character, stating, "You can't expect him to become Ram. Tomorrow in another movie, he may act as Ravana."

Sadhguru also weighed in on the casting of Kannada superstar Yash as the antagonist Ravana. Sharing a lighthearted comment, the guru praised Yash as a "handsome man" and a "very talented superstar in the country and incredibly loved", adding that the filmmakers aim to showcase all the "shades of Ravan, his devotion, his depth, which only Yash can do."
