Sacha Baron Cohen will star in his first stage role in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming play, "The Popinjay Cavalier." The production is slated for a March 18, 2027, premiere at London's Phoenix Theatre. Described as a farce, the play is set in 1830s Europe and centers on Rupert Seastian Thomas Jr., an actor who must flee France after offending its citizens.
Tarantino, known for his filmmaking, revealed development of the stage play in 2024. Cohen expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "When the best director in the world calls, you don't ask questions." Full casting details are expected to be released later.
This theatrical venture follows Cohen's directorial debut, "Ali G: Who Iz I?," releasing later this month. Tarantino also recently penned "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth," a comedy-drama sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," scheduled for theatrical release on November 25 and Netflix on December 23. Tarantino, who has directed nine films, has indicated his tenth will be his last.
