The horror-thriller "Salmokji: Whispering Water" has claimed the number one position at the South Korean box office for the weekend of Apr. 17-19. This film, directed by Lee Sang-min, garnered $3.3 million from 472,121 admissions, representing a significant 50% share of the total weekend box office revenue. Its cumulative gross has now reached $10.2 million.
"Project Hail Mary" secured the second spot with weekend earnings of $1.3 million, bringing its total gross to $17.5 million. In third place, "The King's Warden" added $712,905, further extending its impressive run as the second most-watched film in Korean history, with a total attendance of 16.5 million and a cumulative revenue of $108.6 million.
The identity drama "My Name" made its debut in fourth place, earning $380,515. This film, which screened at the Berlin Film Festival, delves into themes of identity and historical trauma. Animation "Goat" and a re-release of Miyazaki Hayao's "Kiki's Delivery Service" also charted in the top ten, alongside other new releases and re-entries.
