Ryan Hurst has been announced as the actor portraying Kratos in Amazon's upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War for Prime Video. Hurst, widely known for his roles as Opie in Sons of Anarchy and Beta in The Walking Dead, now steps into the iconic role of the titular God of War.
This casting may surprise some who hoped for Christopher Judge, the original voice actor for Kratos in the games, to reprise his role. However, Hurst brings his own notable experience with the franchise, having previously voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarok, a performance that earned him a BAFTA nomination.
The God of War series was initially announced in 2022 as a collaboration between Amazon and PlayStation Productions. It aims to adapt the narrative of Kratos and his son Atreus from the recent acclaimed video games. This project is part of a broader trend of live-action video game adaptations from Sony and Amazon.
