Davies Slams Hollywood Stars Over Intimacy Coordinators
30 May
Summary
- Russell T Davies criticizes Hollywood stars for dismissing intimacy coordinators.
- He calls actors with such views 'disgraceful human beings' and 'privileged'.
- Davies argues coordinators protect less powerful actors on set.

Russell T Davies has publicly criticized Hollywood stars who openly dismiss the necessity of intimacy coordinators. He labelled such perspectives as "privileged" and described actors expressing these views as "disgraceful human beings." Davies argued that performers with significant influence, like Gwyneth Paltrow, fail to understand the precarious position of less powerful actors on set.
Paltrow had previously stated she asked an intimacy coordinator to "step back" during filming with Timothée Chalamet, feeling "stifled." This stance has also been echoed by actors Sean Bean and Kim Basinger. However, many in the industry, including Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, have praised intimacy coordinators for enhancing safety and comfort during the filming of sex scenes.
Davies' comments come as his new Channel 4 drama, "Tip Toe," which features sexually explicit scenes filmed in Manchester's Canal Street, is set to premiere. Intimacy coordinators have become increasingly integral to productions since the #MeToo movement, aiming to choreograph intimate scenes akin to stunt sequences, thereby improving actor well-being.
