Rush Reunites for 50 Something Tour, Bassist Geddy Lee Prepares
25 Oct
Summary
- Rush to reunite for 50 Something tour after long hiatus
- Geddy Lee has been practicing diligently for over a year to get ready
- Rush recruits drummer Anika Nilles to replace late Neil Peart

In a recent interview, Rush bassist Geddy Lee discussed the band's upcoming 50 Something reunion tour and his beloved Toronto Blue Jays making the World Series. Lee admitted he is "a bit overwhelmed" by the overwhelming response from the band's fanbase since announcing the tour.
Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson have been working hard to get ready for the tour, with Lee practicing diligently for about a year and a half. The decision to tour again was not an easy one, as they struggled to find a way to replace the irreplaceable Neil Peart, Rush's legendary drummer who passed away in 2020.
Ultimately, the band recruited drummer Anika Nilles, who came highly recommended by Lee's bass tech after working with her on Jeff Beck's final tour. Nilles, who was not a Rush fan prior to joining the band, has had to learn the nuances and idiosyncrasies of Rush's music, but Lee says she is a "fantastic person" and "tremendous player" who has a great attitude.
While the 50 Something tour won't feature the same marathon three-hour concerts of Rush's younger days, Lee promises the band will play over two hours and pack in a lot of songs for their devoted fans. As for the Blue Jays, Lee was thrilled to witness their dramatic run to the World Series, saying he's "never heard a crowd that loud, that electric, and that on cue" as when the team clinched their spot in the Fall Classic.
