The premiere for RuPaul's latest film, "Stop! That! Train!," took place on a hot-pink carpet in Hollywood on Monday evening. RuPaul, who produced and starred in the movie, described it as an escape from current global anxieties, offering a perfect antidote. The film, set to release in theaters on June 12, is a disaster movie parody centered on two train stewardesses, Tess (Ginger Minj) and Dee Dee (Jujubee).
Their jobs at Stank Rail are lost, leading them to the "Glamazonian Express," a high-speed train that becomes a runaway after a lightning strike. The chaotic situation escalates into a national emergency, reaching President Gagwell, portrayed by RuPaul. The movie boasts a cast including Charo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicole Richie, and Lisa Rinna, alongside numerous "RuPaul's Drag Race" contestants.
Director Adam Shankman drew inspiration from comedy legends like Mel Brooks and the creators of "Airplane!" He aimed for "stupid" comedy, celebrating the unique talents of drag performers who are often underrepresented on the big screen. The premiere's "choo-choo realness" dress code saw attendees like Betsey Johnson and Symone arrive in elaborate, train-themed outfits, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Following the screening at the Harmony Gold theater, guests continued the festivities at La Bohème in West Hollywood. The after-party featured themed cocktails and a train-themed photo booth. RuPaul himself curated the music, dancing with cast members to a soundtrack of iconic pop hits, embodying the film's spirit of irreverence and joy.
