New reports indicate that actress Rukmini Vasanth is in discussions to portray Carnatic legend MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic. This potential casting shift emerges as a replacement for Sai Pallavi, who was earlier rumored to be attached to the project. Vasanth is simultaneously preparing for her Telugu film debut in Prashanth Neel's 'Dragon' opposite Jr NTR.
Prior to this, Sai Pallavi was widely reported to be in line for the titular role, with sources suggesting she had commenced learning Carnatic vocals. Filming was anticipated to begin later in 2026, though no official announcement has been made regarding the film or its cast.
Meanwhile, Sai Pallavi is also slated to play Sita in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana,' with Part I set for a Diwali 2026 release. Vasanth's 'Dragon' has seen its release date pushed to June 11, 2027, with its first glimpse scheduled for May 20, 2026.
The reported casting change for the MS Subbulakshmi biopic is yet to be officially confirmed. The speculation places renewed focus on the film's leading lady, given the high-profile projects both Vasanth and Pallavi are associated with.
