Summary
- Rajamouli used 'Baahubali' logo to boost 'RRR' recognition.
- Trust in marketing team led to 'sleepless nights' for team.
- 'RRR' grossed approximately Rs 1,230 crore worldwide.
SS Rajamouli, celebrated for his grand filmmaking and innovative marketing, ensured 'RRR' became an international sensation. Varun Gupta, part of the film's promotional team, recently shared insights into the demanding yet rewarding marketing process, highlighting the roles of Rajamouli and his son, SS Karthikeya.
To overcome challenges in Hindi-speaking markets where audiences struggled to distinguish between lead actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan, the team ingeniously utilized the 'Baahubali' logo on 'RRR' posters. This strategy aimed to subconsciously link the new film to Rajamouli's previous blockbuster, rather than just writing "from the director of Baahubali."
Gupta noted the deep trust Rajamouli and Karthikeya placed in the marketing team, granting them significant autonomy. This trust, however, meant the team had to be exceptionally cautious and accountable, as Rajamouli and Karthikeya kept them 'on their toes' through their vigilant oversight, leading to what Gupta described positively as 'sleepless nights'.
The film 'RRR' achieved remarkable financial success, grossing approximately Rs 1,230 crore globally during its theatrical run. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli is currently preparing for his next ambitious project, tentatively titled 'Varanasi,' which is slated for an April 2027 release.
