Two individuals who have dedicated over 15 years to crafting wreaths for the Royal Family have been honored with British Empire Medals (BEM). Peter Wills and Paul Hammerton, both 64, were recognized in the King's Birthday Honours for their exceptional service at the Poppy Factory in west London.
Their skilled work, which includes creating wreaths laid annually at the Cenotaph, dates back to the 1920s tradition at the Poppy Factory. Wills and Hammerton expressed their surprise and deep pride in having their meticulous craftsmanship acknowledged through the BEM.
Both have long-standing connections with the Poppy Factory, with Wills joining in 1983 and Hammerton in 1990. The factory praised their practical skill and national significance, particularly in remembering those who have served. This honor arrives as the charity celebrates its 100th anniversary.
