Queen Upset by Royal Wedding Snub

Preparations for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding in 2018 were reportedly fraught with tension, according to recollections from Lady Elizabeth Anson, a confidante of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Anson shared with royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith that Harry had a contentious 10-minute conversation with the Queen regarding wedding plans, which left the monarch deeply saddened and shocked by his rudeness.

Anson detailed that the Queen felt excluded from crucial wedding planning decisions. This included Harry's request to the Archbishop of Canterbury to officiate the ceremony at Windsor Castle without first consulting the Dean of Windsor, whose jurisdiction it was. The Queen also reportedly expressed disappointment over not being informed about details like Meghan's wedding dress.

By late April 2018, weeks before the ceremony, relations between the Queen and Harry reportedly improved. Anson indicated that Harry initiated a reconciliation, writing a letter to his grandmother to explain the unfolding arrangements after she expressed feeling left out. Despite this, Anson suggested lingering doubts about Meghan and concerns over the dynamics within the younger generation of royals.
