King Charles & Queen Camilla Kick Off Royal Ascot

King Charles and Queen Camilla commenced the 2026 Royal Ascot week on June 16 by leading the Royal Procession. The royal couple arrived by carriage, marking the official start of the prestigious horse racing event. The week is expected to draw approximately 300,000 visitors over its five-day duration.

The royals shared a message in the program, welcoming attendees and noting the high caliber of racing anticipated. Horses from Europe, North America, and Australasia are expected to compete, with broadcasts reaching nearly 200 countries. This annual event has been a significant fixture for the royal family and the global horse racing industry for generations.

Ascot Racecourse also emphasized its commitment to sustainability. Improvements include a refurbished Weighing Room and the installation of 1,200 solar panels on the Grandstand roof. King Charles and Queen Camilla, as owner-breeders themselves, conveyed their understanding of the challenges and shared good luck with fellow participants.

Royal Ascot, which officially became a Royal Week in 1911, has a history dating back to Queen Anne's establishment of Ascot Racecourse in 1711. King Charles, who attended his first Royal Ascot as monarch in 2023, has continued the tradition of royal patronage. The event is recognized as Britain's most popular race meeting.
