Rostam has shared the original 2005 rendition of "Campus," a song previously released as a B-side on Vampire Weekend's 2008 debut album. He initially recorded the track at Columbia University before the band's formation, envisioning a piece centered on cello, kick drum, and vocals, drawing inspiration from Robyn's "Be Mine."
The song's rework for Vampire Weekend's debut was a "happy accident," as Rostam noted the band's instruments adapted the piece well. However, he always intended for this initial version to be heard.
Accompanying the release is a mini-documentary where Rostam explains that "Campus" is a tribute to students who have protested at Columbia and across the country. He expressed his solidarity with these student movements.
A limited edition 7-inch vinyl of the song is now available. Importantly, 51% of the proceeds generated from its sales will be donated to four specific non-profit organizations: Palestine Legal, CHIRLA, Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and Sudanese American Physicians Association.
