The original EastEnders cast member, Ross Davidson, has passed away at the age of 57. His death followed a brave, months-long battle with a glioblastoma grade 4 brain tumor. Davidson, who began his professional life as a PE teacher and water polo player in Scotland, transitioned to acting after a stint running a pub.
His acting career included early television roles and commercials before he landed the significant part of nurse Andy O'Brien in the inaugural cast of EastEnders in 1985. His character was involved in notable storylines, including a controversial affair with Angie Watts.
Davidson was the first original cast member to depart EastEnders, later appearing in stage productions and hosting television shows. He also featured in other soaps like Brookside, Pobol Y Cwm, and Hollyoaks. In 2005, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent unsuccessful surgery.
Despite the grim prognosis, Davidson married his long-standing girlfriend, Barbara, just three months after his diagnosis. He passed away on October 16, 2007, leaving behind his wife, his son Drew, and three step-children.
