Award-winning Cornish director Mark Jenkin has unveiled his latest film, Rose of Nevada, a time travel narrative drawing inspiration from the science fiction series Quantum Leap. The story centers on a fishing vessel that vanishes at sea, only to reappear in a village three decades later.
Jenkin and co-writer Mary Woodvine developed the concept from an imagined scene of a boat returning after a severe storm. They aimed to create a distinct time travel experience, differentiating it from iconic films like Back to the Future. "Low-tech time travel" is a key element, with characters returning 30 years into the past through a sea mist.
The film, which has been showcased at international festivals including Venice and Toronto, focuses on the repercussions of this temporal displacement rather than the mechanics of time travel itself. This approach also ensures the narrative remains grounded before the widespread availability of online information.
Rose of Nevada is set for a national release on Friday, April 24, 2026. Jenkin is embarking on a preview tour across Cornwall and Exeter, anticipating a unique audience reception from his home county.
