Rose Byrne Clears Up Bearded Dragon Story
22 Feb
Summary
- Rose Byrne clarified her Golden Globe speech about her partner's reptile expo absence.
- The bearded dragon purchase was intended for their children, not her partner.
- She felt out of her depth during her acceptance speech but was reassured by Conan O'Brien.

Rose Byrne recently clarified comments she made during her Golden Globe win for "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You." While accepting the award, she revealed her partner Bobby Cannavale was absent because he was at a reptile expo in New Jersey. Byrne stated this absence was to retrieve a much-desired bearded dragon for their children, dispelling assumptions that the purchase was solely for Cannavale.
Byrne expressed that she would not make such an announcement on a major awards show again, noting the misunderstanding that arose from her speech. She also reflected on her acceptance speech, describing herself as "out of depth and inarticulate" and regretting forgetting to thank some individuals. Fortunately, actor and awards show veteran Conan O'Brien reassured her that her brief speech was effective and that audiences prefer shorter thank-yous.
Despite the Globes anecdote, Byrne confirmed in January that the bearded dragon has been successfully acquired and is settling in well. Byrne and Cannavale have been together since 2012 and are parents to two sons. They have starred together in "Spy" and "Platonic" and refer to each other as "husband and wife" though they are not married.
