A sequel to the 1997 cult classic Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is in development, with Wendi McLendon-Covey joining the cast. The new film will feature the return of original stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, who played the inseparable best friends in the first movie.
The sequel is scheduled to stream as a Hulu Original in the United States. Original cast members Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, and Julia Campbell are also set to reprise their roles. The film began shooting in Los Angeles in June.
New additions to the cast include Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, Nathan Lee Graham, Anna Baryshnikov, and Sofia Wylie. The sequel is being directed by Tim Federle from a script penned by Robin Schiff, who wrote the original film.
