Cult Comedy Sequel Casts Up

Twenty Century Studios is expanding the cast for the highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 cult classic, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. Anna Baryshnikov and Sofia Wylie are the latest additions to the ensemble, with their character details currently undisclosed. Wylie will reunite with director Tim Federle, following their collaboration on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Original stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are confirmed to return, reprising their roles as the titular best friends. Filming for the sequel commenced in Los Angeles in June, and it is slated for release as a Hulu Original in the U.S. Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim, and Julia Campbell are also set to reprise their roles from the original film. Newcomers to the franchise include Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham.

The sequel is being helmed by director Tim Federle, working from a script penned by Robin Schiff, who also wrote the original movie. Laurence Mark is producing, with Barry Kemp, Sorvino, Kudrow, and Schiff serving as executive producers. Kimberly McCullough is co-producing, and Sarah Shepard is overseeing the project for Twenty Century Studios. Baryshnikov's recent work includes the SXSW comedy Idiotka, and she has upcoming roles in Netflix's Queenstown and Apple's Cape Fear TV series. Wylie's previous credits include The Map That Leads to You and The School for Good and Evil, with her next appearance in Netflix's The Body.
