He had served nearly three years of a five-year sentence before being released on license in 2017. Following his release, he lived in isolation with his wife in Bray, Berkshire. He was reportedly suffering from neck cancer from October 2022 and died at his home. His death was officially attributed to neck cancer and frailty of old age.
