Acclaimed filmmaker Rohan Sippy has made a mark in the entertainment industry over the past several years, transitioning from successful theatrical films to popular OTT shows. His latest web series, "Search: The Naina Murder Case", just started streaming on JioHotstar.
Sippy, who has previously directed hits like "Bluffmaster" and "Dum Maaro Dum", has found great success in the OTT space as well. He has helmed several acclaimed shows, including "The Office", three seasons of "Criminal Justice", and "Mithya". While he is open to returning to theatrical films, Sippy says the medium is secondary to the story and the people he gets to work with.
"Actually, the truth is we are not able to plan our careers as much as we want," Sippy explains. "My learning, at least, tells me that you react to the opportunity in front of you and you get excited by it, then I take it on. I have always loved working on feature films. I keep working on the scripting and trying to develop projects."
Sippy believes the reach of an OTT show can be as much, if not more, than a theatrical film. "Look at this platform," he says. "Through JioHotstar, we can reach hundreds of millions of subscribers. Which film can ever reach that? So, I think once you look at what you are doing and you see what you can get out of it, that's it. You enjoy that and maximize that and look for the next opportunity."
